Dr. Maureen Lyon (Clinical Health Psychologist)
Practice
My clinical approach is cognitive-behavioral (CBT) in the
treatment of anxiety, panic and eating disorders. CBT is evidence-based, best practice therapy which is relies on the theory that how we think, feel and act all interact. Unrealistic and negative thoughts can cause distress and result in problems.
My orientation is also interpersonal (ITP,
Interpersonal Psychotherapy) in the treatment of
depression involving loss, role conflicts, and relationship issues. ITP is one of the short-term therapies that has been proven to be effective for the treatment of depression. It views the experience of loss as underlying much of human suffering.

"A human being is part of the whole, called by us 'universe,' a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separate from the rest - a kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and affection for a few persons nearest to use. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our cicrcle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."
